August 8th

[So it's Laslow's birthday.

Yay.

He finds a park in Edge and just sort of. Flops on the nearest bench after work at a nearby club where he dances. There's still some kids playing, but they're far enough that Laslow can stare into the middle distance and not be considered a creep]

Some birthday.

Faint Dead Away - anywhere during the month, though not the 11th
It'd already happened once, earlier in the month, and Cloud really would rather that it didn't happen again.

But then, you don't really get to choose when and if you randomly faint, which was what he did do... though luckily never out in the streets of Edge. But ending up slumped in the lobby of the Streamer apartment complex or in a store wasn't much better, honestly, even when he just got dizzy and had to catch himself against something.

... at least no one was around when it happened in his own apartment.

Almost a birthday - on the streets of Edge, the 11th
He hadn't planned it that way, but it was a little ironic, maybe, that he'd saved enough gil to buy the sword he was now carrying back to the apartment. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was better than just the cheapest crap you could get.

The sword wasn't really a birthday present to himself - not exactly anyway - the real one, so to speak, was what he was intending to ask Zack, which yes, was related to the sword. Technically, though, it probably couldn't be a birthday present... he couldn't really say today was his birthday, since he'd had his actual one only a few months ago. Unless he was repeating his sixteenth, maybe... And anyway, Zack might not feel up to it, of course, and that'd be okay. There were (as strange as that was to consider) two others he could probably ask, too.

SOLDIER wasn't a possibility any longer, but that didn't mean he'd have to just give up on the knowledge and skill he'd already gotten, right? There was still, after all, always monsters around...

Fainted (anywhere around Edge)

Rude was heading to run a few personal errands after work when he fainted out on the street. Someone had been kind enough to prop him up against the building he was outside of, but he's still out cold twenty minutes later, sans sunglasses.

Two Faced (Seventh Heaven)

This fainting business was a pain in the ass. After he'd gotten up from fainting that evening, he headed to Seventh Heaven to have a drink or two. What he didn't know is that when he'd fainted outside the ShinRa building earlier, some kid had come and doodled on the back of his head. "SHINRA SUCKS" in big bold black sharpie with an angry looking face drawn beneath it. Surely people had noticed it, but no one had approached him about it yet.

Hot (Inside ShinRa offices - employees only)

Right now, Rude was more sloppily dressed than Reno on a bad day. His shirt was not only untucked, but unbuttoned, revealing a soaked undershirt. His tie had been discarded along with his suit jacket and he had a wet towel slung around his neck in an attempt to keep cool. His pants were replaced by the shorts he used when working out.

If he had to go anywhere on a mission, he'd change back, but for now, he was filling out paperwork and could probably get away with it. Besides, no one could see him from the waist down as he sat behind the desk. As he finished one file, he signed his name, closed the folder and used it to fan himself as he leaned back in his seat. Why couldn't he be working in the server room, where the AC was on 24/7 to keep them from going down.

Faint Dead Away: Anywhere around Edge.

Yuffie moved swiftly across the high peeks of the rooftops. Her feet whispered against the concrete and mortar while dark almond eyes scanned the streets below. Rooftops are the best mode of transportation: no traffic, no one to bother you, and it's feels as if a single person might achieve flight without the pesky side affect of motion sickness. She has gotten better but Yuffie continued dislikes most modes of transportation.

She peered down at the street below, imagining people as ants or some other small animal. The buildings aren't always tall enough to make people look like ants but it's fun to imagine them scurrying around below her.

"Whoa," Yuffie leaned forward when her eyes caught a glint of a curious sight. It happened in that instant, the world swam and the bright sun blurred the streets and buildings into one mass of swirling blinding color. Yuffie's thin fingers slipped away from the buildings edge and she felt herself falling towards the sidewalk beneath her.

[ooc: you can run into Yuffie during the falling or after she's already an injured heap on the ground. Don't worry, she isn't dead.]

All fun and games: Seventh Heaven

Yuffie drummed her fingers restlessly against the polished wood of the bar. Her head hurt like hell and she couldn't think straight enough to understand what had happened. She decided to take a break from her rooftop antics and focus on pestering those she knew lived in the city. She didn't actually know where everyone was staying so she had some recon to do and the best place to do that was at Tifa's Bar.

There was a drink in front of her and the alcohol was great at numbing the headache that rested just behind her temples.

When the door opened she'd turn to look, her dark eyes shining curiously. If it wasn't someone she knew she promptly went back to drinking and hoping that the alcohol would continue to take the edge off of her throbbing headache.

She could have probably spent the night here with Tifa but she'd hoped to see more people and crash on more couches. It really was the easiest way to say hi to people and see what they were up to. Plus she might get some dirt on her friends in the process. It couldn't possibly go wrong.

True enough, Zack hadn't been joking about going out. For him it's been a pretty long time so why not go all out? The people that had seemed interested all got a message explaining where they we going to be. Someone that Zack thought could use a little social get together got a message regardless if they answered his call out. He isn't sure who all is going to show, but who cares?

All that matters is that he is here at some bar that Cloud has picked out. Friends will be here too, hopefully. They can cut loose a little and have a good time out tonight. If they manage to have a little too much fun... Well then it makes for some good memories and new stories to be retold. Who knows, maybe someone it won't even be remembered in the morning.

(( ooc: but no seriously. do what you want. it's kind of an open mingle sort of thing for anyone and everyone. make your own threads or join in others. sky's the limit for real. ))

A part of Riku hoped that with the free vacations and less people in Edge, some of the power issues would be fixed. When they all came back to still fans and inactive air conditioners, he had a sinking feeling.

But he didn't feel all that bad about it until he was roaming around the city and spotted a few other residents. The small, furry kind that is. A couple of alleycats and stray dogs caught Riku's attention, and while humans could find ways to cope with the heat, it wasn't always easy for animals.

So for a part of the week, Riku's been going around to some of the local restaurants and bars, offering and even paying to take some of the scraps of food off their hands (Seventh Heaven though, he actively avoided). It was a weird request for sure and gave the clone even more odd stares than normal. But this time, he had something of a reason.

Once he had enough collected, he headed out of the apartments with the hood of his vest up and a bag in hand containing some food, water canisters and bowls. He's sure someone might tell him that feeding strays would be a bad idea when the city is still trying to build itself up, but he didn't really care. They mattered too.

So Riku's set up a little secluded spot for himself on a less busy side street and lays the bowls out. Soon after the food is set, mixtures of kibble and meat and assorted pieces of other foods, there's a small gathering of animals around him. Some cats, two stray dogs, and if someone looks closely enough,  they may see a yellow puffball of a chick sitting in Riku's uncovered hand and the smile on his face that just doesn't seem to stop.

Cloud was fairly certain that if it got any hotter, the entire city was just going to start to melt. The lack of power to keep things cool was making Edge a miserable place to be but it was home and while the beach had been a nice break, he couldn't stay away forever. He had work to do.

Work that included making sure his bike--and the one he was preparing for his younger self on the sly--were in tip top condition.

Most of his usual gear abandoned on his work bench thanks to the heat, the blonde was elbow deep in the engine of the bike he was repairing for his younger self, the engine propped up on a few old crates as he attempted to replace the cylinder heads. The thing still fired up, he'd tried it before doing anything, but it didn't sound like it should and the last thing Cloud wanted was for it to break down while anyone was riding it. He frowned softly at the engine block, sweating beading down his face thanks to the heat and he paused to wipe it away with his shoulder. (No easy task when your hands were preoccupied with holding together parts of an engine.)

Finally getting the cylinder head into place, he slipped the bolts back where they needed to go before easing his arms out of the small space. The combination of sweat and grease from the motor was not the most pleasant feeling but this was only a small part of what he needed to do to get his old bike road ready.

Next up, he needed to make sure the timing was right.

Late in the afternoon, two teenagers can be seen gathering up all the broken wood and other burnables they can find into a massive pile on the beach outside the Grand Solarian. One of them keeps telling the other not to throw the gas on yet before he eventually sends him off to go get everything else ready.

By sunset, it’s clear what’s going on. Lea and Isa are having their joint birthday party tonight and since they’re in Costa del Sol that means bonfire party. Lea’s having too much fun using his Fire materia to light the bonfire, and Isa’s got a spot set up to stargaze with the telescope Lea got him. There’s plenty of food and cake spread out on a table with a handmade banner proclaiming “Lea and Isa’s 17th Birthday Bonfire” hanging off the front. The party’s open to everyone (though their CR got personal text-invitations).

Wow. If being able to travel was now as easy as having a power failure, Aerith might wish for more power failures. Just might. It had been inconvenient for people. But now she was going to the beach!

...With a plus-one. Her mom's being understandably clingy for having a daughter who was murdered three years ago. Understandably, but frustratingly, clingy, and a trip that's supposed to be relaxing only stresses her out more. The fussing starts from the moment they have to put down names for the hotel reservations ("Mom, even if the Turks know to look for me, they wouldn't take me to Hojo now, just Rufus" shockingly did not help), continues over the flight there, and gets even worse after an encounter with a guy who wouldn't take "no" for an answer ("Mom, there were dozens of guys like him in Midgar, I know how to handle them.")

By the time night falls and her mother goes to sleep, Aerith is all too happy to change into her swimsuit and sneak out, first to the Grand Solarian's bar for a drink to unwind. "I love my mom, I love my mom..." she murmurs to herself as she waits in the corner, leaning against the wall (the best view she can get of the bar while looking more casual than paranoid about it--Mom's nerves are rubbing off).

To distract herself, she'll strike up conversation with anyone seated nearby, asking: "Are you here on vacation too?"

She's not planning on getting drunk, though, so after enjoying one glass, she moves onto the beach proper. It's obviously late for someone to be swimming on their own, so she mostly just walks along the sand, but at some point she moves far enough into the water for the waves to be lapping at her stomach and enjoys the coolness of the water before swimming along in a breaststroke.

[OOC: Any Shinra characters who do want to run into her / have been tracking her or something are okay to intercept her. She will be a little huffy, but not as huffy as she would have been if you did this while Elmyra was around. ]

After spending the majority of the last few weeks in the WRO medical ward recovering from mako poisoning, Squall had decided to take up the offer for a free vacation. It felt strange taking a vacation from... nothing? He hadn’t done anything in this strange new city since he woke up on that foreign riverside aside from throwing up whatever was left in his stomach again and again. It had been a painful first few weeks, mostly left sleeping in a nearly comatose state in the hospital.

Then the heat started. That sweltering, intolerable heat.

When the announcement came along that they were offering free vacations, Squall decided to take it up. He deserved it; he wanted some relaxation after being stranded in the hospital for so long. His migraines weren’t going away and his confusion about this place was still making him dizzy. So a little bit of rest away from bright hospital lights, disgusting plastic food trays and warm apple juice was welcome.

Squall found himself a nice shaded spot under a rented umbrella on the beach with a book and clad in nothing but black swim shorts. The sky was clear, the ocean was gently misting his body and he was content.

After a little bit of earned vacation time away from the hospital he would try to settle in Edge and find himself some work to keep him busy. But for now? Sweet, sweet alone time.

That is, unless anyone dares to disturb him.
