Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[[Feel free to make your own top levels! Welcome to Edge of Life!]]

So it begins!

[The sound of someone doing well at the games drew Winston's attention as he finished off his faire food.

Setting up a position, he watched as a rabbit of all things, threw darts with astounding accuracy. She seemed evolved as he was, and he waited for a moment before the man at the booth asked for another player, possibly to give Judy a challenge.

With a grin, he placed down his gil and the man stared for a moment before complaining loudly about the world going to the animals as he gave him darts.]

Pardon me, [Rumbled Winston as he threw the first dart.]
carrotcop: (Oh god why am I here)

[Having done well had boosted Judy's confidence a bit and she was eager for a chance to go toe to toe with someone. Her ears were perked and she was practically bouncing on her toes only to startle and hop to the side as suddenly there was someone at the counter--

Someone very large and very hairy. And...what..in the world was he?!

Judy's nose was twitching a mile a minute as she tried to make sense of his scent, nodding slightly when he spoke to her. She was unable to look away from him, not even tracking the movements of the darts, ears slowly falling in a half cocked, curious position as she took a couple steps towards him.]

Um..excuse me, sir. [A sheepish smile appears as she lifts her hand in a slight wave.] Could I--um--ask you a question?
scntstnotmunky: (Worried)

[Tossing the last dart and collecting his prize, Winston turned to Judy and pushed up his glasses.]

Of course, please ask away.

[He did move aside just to let the eager kids get to the game while he spoke to Judy.]

I--well I don't mean to be rude or anything like that, sir, but I honestly...I'm just not entirely sure...what you are.

[There's genuine curiosity in her expression as she says it, taking another step closer to the edge so she's closer to Winston in general.]

You don't look like the other animals here but I've never seen anyone that looks quite like you back home either.
scntstnotmunky: (Huh)

Me? Oh, well that is a surprise. I am a Gorilla, a mammal often hailing from the African jungles.

I am not from here, as you've implied. I am from a place called Earth.
carrotcop: (Eep!)

[personal profile] carrotcop 2016-06-27 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
A gorilla.

[She repeats it like she's trying the word out, nose twitching a bit.]

You're a mammal, too? [Strange.] But there aren't any gorillas in Zootopia. [That last bit is said thoughtful as she tries to make sense of this.]
scntstnotmunky: (Grimace)

[personal profile] scntstnotmunky 2016-06-27 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
A gorilla.

[Winston thought about this for a moment. A city, or a land named Zootopia, and there were no gorillas... curious.]

Likewise, my world has no talking rabbits. However, it might be a stark difference between our worlds.

It sure seems like it. [It's said thoughtfully as Judy steps to the side a bit to get a better look at him, her expression less shocked now, though.

Now she's just genuinely interested in this strange mammal.]

What are gorillas? Outside of mammals, I mean.
scntstnotmunky: (Wot)

[personal profile] scntstnotmunky 2016-07-01 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What are gorillas... we are herbivores for example, we like bananas and other fruits and vegetables. I also enjoy a lot of peanut butter as well.

Gorillas, on a whole are very intelligent, even ones unlike me who haven't undergone gene therapy and developmental skill enhancements. We learn, understand and have our own languages.

[He was also a bit pudgy too, from the look of it. Like he hadn't exercised for a while.]

[Judy was absolutely fascinated by the information she was receiving, nose twitching a mile a minute as she soaked it all up.]

Herbivores..something we have in common, then!

[Good to know.]

Gene therapy? [Hold on a moment.] What's that?

Ah, it is a form of advanced science, to enable the evolutionary development of species such as myself. I'm afraid not many animals, mammals other than humans are evolved as such for cognitive speech and, well, pants.

[He smiled just a little.] My mentor, Dr. Winston was the one who taught me how to speak, to write and program once the therapy took hold. I developed much faster than other gorillas of my age.
