Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[Rides]

Carnivals were right up Marlene's alley. She loved all of the enthusiasm everyone put into it, and overall, it made people happier, which around here everyone needed. Huge meteors and dragons destroying the city tend to bring down morale.

The rides were the first thing Marlene headed to, her heart dead set on finding something fun and fast and went upside down. Sadly though, all of those rides had a 'YOU MUST BE THIS TALL TO RIDE THIS RIDE' and unfortunately, Marlene was just slightly too short.

Boo. At the last right, she stomped her foot and crossed her arms over her chest. "This isn't fair!!"

[Food]

With her small and meager allowance from helping Cloud and Tifa around 7th Heaven, Marlene ran for what all kids run for: ice cream.

She was patient enough to wait in line for it instead of wiggling her way through the line and using her wide eyes to have the merchant give her some. Once to the counter, she had to motion for the merchant to lean forward so she could give him her gil and ask for the biggest scoop of vanilla ice cream she could get. Once given her massive cone of ice cream, she parked herself on a curb and was content to finish it all. Just watch.

A tiny black thing stuck her face near Marlene's, clearly interested in her ice cream. Surely the tiny human would share?

(The couerl had a collar, so it seemed as if she had escaped her owner for the time being.)

Fairs weren't exactly Riku's forte. Too many people and too little space for everyone. But at least around some of the food vendors there's a little bit more space.

Enough space for Riku to stop and watch the girl on the curb. Of course he recognizes Marlene, but being in a foreign place means people don't know him and mistake him for someone else.

But seeing her attacking a giant ice cream cone like that brings a slight smile to his face, even though his voice is quiet and can be easily misheard.

"Bit big for you, huh?"

"What isn't fair?" Isa asked. He was just approaching the ride when he'd spotted Marlene. He glanced at the sign behind her and found the answer to his question.

"I think I saw a ride earlier that you can go on if you have someone bigger with you. Did you want to go try that one?" While he hasn't spoken to Marlene before, he has seen her while working at the bar, so hopefully she recognizes him as well, and doesn't think some weird stranger is offering to go on rides with her out of nowhere.

She watched from a distance, letting Marlene handle the entire transaction on her own. There was no doubt at all in her mind that Marlene was capable and, honestly, probably had a better head on her shoulders than half the adults they both knew but still - Tifa couldn't help but keep an eye on her when she was able. Kids grew up fast enough. Sometimes it was hard to decide when to let them fly and when to catch them.

Ice cream though... ice cream could handle flying.

She had her own plate with a very sugar covered funnel cake on at and she walked over to sit down next to Marlene once the little girl was settled in. Dubious, she eyed the monstrosity on top of the cone and her lips twitched.

"If you want to go on any twirling rides after this - we're finding Cloud."

"I completely and totally agree with you that this is not fair."

Laguna had stopped beside her, crossing his arms as he stares at the sign with her. He walks over to it then, putting his hand on the top of his head and moving it forward. It misses the top of the sign easily.

"Dammit. See, it says you must be THIS tall to ride, but I'm THIS tall." He uses both hands to compare before turning back to Marlene.

"Insane. Just insane. But I think if we work the angle right..." He lifts his hand to semi measure her, head tilting slightly as he squints.

"Mm... yes.. Yes I think we're just about there. Okay, I'm going to need you to take your shoes and socks off and bear with me because I'm going to make you taller."
