Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[[Feel free to make your own top levels! Welcome to Edge of Life!]]

"What would you have him doing?" Tseng asked, trying to play the question off as casual, though he was very invested in Rufus' answer. Zack wasn't exactly Turk material, at least not as they used to be. Now, though, perhaps.

"Security, of course." Rufus sighed softly, shifting Keiko in his lap so he could be more comfortable. "For the first time in my life, Tseng, I don't what tomorrow might bring. Until three years ago, I was going to rule the world. And then I was going to rebuild it...and then I was going to die." Tseng was the only one Rufus would ever openly admit that to, the only one who was outright told by Rufus himself that he knew he was going to die and had accepted it. "Today? I've spoken to two Zack Fairs, one of whom isn't even from this Planet and seems to have adopted a former experiment. I saw a giant monkey walking around the fair today. People unlike any we've ever seen--or ever made--are washing up in Mideel every day."

He paused to let everything settle and to let him phrase this next part properly. "I have every faith that you and the others can protect me at whatever cost. But what if it comes down to exactly that? Where will I be then?" The president shook his head. "I cannot allow that to happen, Tseng. I will not."

"The monkey may have been preferable to the rabbit," Tseng muttered with a sigh. What a strange lot indeed. He preferred not to think about Rufus' brush with mortality. No, they hadn't found a cure, but regardless Rufus was now cured and healthy and safe. The Wutaian would do whatever it took to keep him that way, whatever the cost, as Rufus had said.

"I don't question your choices, sir. Fair was- ... is a capable soldier, one of the best, and I know he'll serve you well should he decide to join us." And it would be nice to have his old friend close at hand, though that wasn't something Tseng was about to voice.

Rufus nodded before turning to stare at Tseng.

"Rabbit?"

"A talking rabbit wearing clothing, one of the Streamers. She expressed interest in joining the Turks. Apparently she'd been told we were this world's police force." He rolled his eyes and resumed petting the coeurl in his lap.

Rufus blinked. "I...see." He paused. "Did you hire her?"

"No," he stated flatly. "We aren't in any need of more Turks. I suggested she could join the security force, but she seemed dissatisfied with that and left in a bit of a huff."

"You aren't the least bit curious to see how a rabbit would do in the Turks?"

[personal profile] paidmuchbetter 2016-06-24 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Not particularly." He glared at Rufus out of the corner of his eye, knowing his boss was trolling him. "And how would you explain hiring more employees into the Turks when you've told everyone we aren't kept for our original purpose anymore?"
fearedheir: (Actually Smiling)

[personal profile] fearedheir 2016-06-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Rufus waved off his concern. Yes, he was mostly trolling Tseng, though part of him was curious.

"You are my head of security, and it's easy enough to explain any confusion the public may have away with 'that was their name previously'."

"I don't think it's a good idea," he said stubbornly. "I'll hire as many security personnel as you please, but I believe the Turks should remain as we are."
fearedheir: (Default)

[personal profile] fearedheir 2016-06-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
That made Rufus smile ever so slightly. He was, of course, in complete agreement with Tseng and always would be when it came to the Turks. They were more than his black ops department and bodyguards, after everything. Rufus would never compromise them by adding strangers.

"Of course. Still, the idea of a rabbit in the Turks is rather amusing if only as a thought experiment."

[personal profile] paidmuchbetter 2016-06-28 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"You may mull it over in your head as much as it pleases you, but I remain firm on my stance." Look at this, Tseng standing up to Rufus? The world must be ending. Or he just really doesn't want to hire anyone into the Turks. It sounded like a security breach waiting to happen, rabbit or not. Her snippy attitude hadn't helped her at all either.

The Wutaian looked down at the kit on his lap, smiling ever so slightly as she yawned and rolled onto her back for a belly rubbing.

"Has there been any headway on the research in Mideel?"
fearedheir: (Can't Read Me)

[personal profile] fearedheir 2016-06-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Rufus chuckled. "Of course, Tseng. I would never argue with you over your subordinates." Usually, anyway. "And not yet. Vincent Valentine did attempt to put in a resume--and I do still have it, before you ask--because he wants clearance to explore Mideel and the Lifestream. He seemed to think I had enough standing with the WRO to grant that to my personal employees."

[personal profile] paidmuchbetter 2016-06-28 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Valentine?" He asked with a bit of surprise, looking over at Rufus. "He would be a useful asset to the company. And last I checked, he has connections within the WRO. If we could get him on our payroll, to report to us, while using his network, it would be advantageous."

"While giving the WRO and AVALANCHE access to what information we have before I feel like sharing," he pointed out. "He claimed he wasn't part of AVALANCHE, but I don't know who he thought he was fooling."

"Limited access. No one said it had to be an open conduit." Though Valentine was smart. There could be no trickery involved, and the terms would need to be clearly on the table from the beginning.

"I will think on the situation and offer a proposition within a few days."
