Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

Sunset was scarily good at the carnival games.

She was winning toy after toy and giving them to kids who looked on with awe. She, like Winston, was popular with the kids and she was playing her best. Sometimes she would pause for a snack, or maybe go on a fair ride.

Other times, she would be looking out for her friends, and then looking into finding a job at a mechanics or a research position.

She was very good, and when asked to demonstrate her skill with broken machines, Sunset would fix it, within minutes. It was almost magic.

For her part, Akira is back to happily blending in with the crowd. (Granted, with some new and slightly more comfortable clothing. She finally feels like she’s back in her own skin, thanks to securing some camouflage tank tops.) Just watching, considering waving to people she knows but ultimately not lifting her hand-

Until she sees… That. That adorable-plush-thing that looks like a white cat with purple bat wings, up for grabs at one of the game booths. She wants THAT. Akira looks dead set on getting it too, as she approaches the stand and looks at the basketball hoop like she’s squaring off for a battle.

Though before she goes into full on focus, she does see Sunset off to the side and gives her a small, friendly nod.

“H-hey. You look like you know your way around these. Do you happen to have any pointers?”

"Pointers? Well, yeah I have a few."

Taking one of the darts in her hand, she threw it with an overhead motion. "You want to focus as much energy into the tip of the finger to push it forward first off. Go for the mid-range balloons before aiming for the smaller ones, less margin of error."

The vendor looked a bit put off but let Sunset throw her darts, and she had her hands full of a tonberry plush.

"Focus?" That word seems to resonate with Akira quite a bit. She hefts her own game piece to try and get a feel for it, tossing the basketball up and down once or twice to find the weight. "I was worried this would be a Gorin thing- ah, sorry. Old rival high school from home, a lot better at sports than everyone else."

She sounds just a little put out by that fact; someone apparently didn't ace gym in her old home world. But if she can think of this like martial arts? She might just have a shot at this.

With that in mind Akira takes a stance as the timer ticks down to start trying to shoot hoops.

"School rivalries? I understand that. My school recently had a competition with Crystal Prep. It was basically a draw," said Sunset as she took a moment to watch Akira at the basketball game.

She looked over at the prizes. There was a lot of them.

"Draws didn't usually happen with us- my old school, at least." Akira has time to say before focusing on the hoop.

Ok, she's got this. She very much has got this, just line up, shoot-

And put so much pressure on the shot, that the resulting throw puts a dent in the backboard before dropping like a weight through the hoop. Cue perplexed blinking.

"Is- is that a good thing?"

"Ouch, that sucks."

At the throw, Sunset winced. "Um, kind of?" Sunset mimed throwing. "You want to make it arc upwards instead of throwing directly at it like a baseball would be."
