Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[[Feel free to make your own top levels! Welcome to Edge of Life!]]

[ Carnival Games ]

[The instant Judy had woken up in the hospital she had known something was wrong. Nothing smelled right, nothing sounded right and nothing looked right. The shock of seeing such strange animals hovering around her had prompted the rabbit to kick a few in the face in her attempt to get away, causing more commotion than anyone probably had expected from a rabbit.

One that could talk. And promptly demanded answers.

It had been a lot to take in and Judy was pretty sure that she was still hallucinating but so far she hadn't been able to wake herself up or snap out of it. She'd gotten settled into what was apparently her new apartment--one that was far too big for such a small bunny--and had been given basic necessities. She appreciated it, she really did--the strange animals had even gone out of their way to get her clothes that would fit right.

But...she still wanted answers. And she wanted to go home; she wanted to get back to Nick.

Talk of a carnival had lured the bunny cop out of her apartment and to the festivities, Judy pointedly ignoring all the strange looks she was getting and carefully dodging around people that weren't use to look for someone so small and almost stepped on her. Their apologies were waved off with a smile as they stared at her with wide eyes and Judy continued to mill about. It was the games that caught her attention pretty quick and the bunny was happy to throw herself at a distraction.

Which is why she's currently standing on the counter of one of the game booths, ears laid back in concentration as she tosses darts at balloons--much to the amusement and confusion of the man in charge.]

[ Job Fair ]

[Judy had gotten wind that ShinRa was the group in charge of things in this place and that a mysterious group known as the Turks were basically this world's police force. It had caught her attention immediately and the bunny had set off to explore the job fair in hopes of finding out more.

Finding the ShinRa booth had been easy but getting their attention? Not so easy.

So after a few huffs and impatient foot taps Judy had managed to weasel her way to the front of the group and promptly gotten herself up onto the table. Several people backed off in surprise at the sight of her but she ignored them, adjusting her shirt as she cleared her throat, ears going up.]

I'd like to apply for a position with the Turks.

Tseng stiffened at the mention of Zack, but only slightly so. He refused to be seen compromised.

"Is that so? And how did he seem?"

Hearing from Rufus and the two different Clouds sort of put Zack on a mission. He was curious, if anything, about the other guy wandering around that happened to share his existence. Who wouldn't be interested in meeting another version of yourself? Zack always did sort of wonder what life might have been like if he would have survived. Again, no real complaints other than the obvious. It wasn't like he bemoaned all that had happened.

Now it wouldn't be hard to find a guy that looked like yourself only with a walking stick, right? Zack also held the advantage of, well, the guy being himself. If he thought about where he would maybe like to be during the festival, it made it all the more easier to scope out potential places to run into one another. In the end? Zack wasn't disappointed.

"Depends on what you're looking for," he commented, maybe purposefully sneaking up behind the other. It was all in good fun, right?

Rufus still caught it. "Happy, though he doesn't know what's going on any more than we do. I offered him a job with us, should he find he needs one."
swordoath: (☄ I bite my tongue so I don't lie)

[personal profile] swordoath 2016-06-23 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh.

"Got to admit," Zack started, shifting on his feet. "It's awfully hard not to respect someone owning up for past mistakes - even if they didn't personally make all of them."

That, right there, would probably be one of the other reasons that he would consider ShinRa again. Zack did have a hand in some of that misery, whether intentionally or not. Regardless, Rufus was on a pretty rough road.

Such a misinformed rabbit. Tseng, ShinRa Tech's director of security, had been loitering around the table in the job fair section quite a bit, watching with vague interest as new prospects were interviewed for possible positions within the company. He needed more security, but a job fair hardly seemed the place to find such employees.

Until this new... creature arrived.

The blatant and unfearful mention of the Turks was the first thing that caught Tseng's attention, bringing him around to the table, where he stopped in his track as he looked at the speaker. Clearly this had to be one of Reeve's jokes. Still... this was so much more lifelike than Cait Sith had ever managed to be...

"There are no openings within the Turks," he supplied when the recruiter failed to get any words out for a few moments.

Rufus smiled ever so faintly. "Thank you. I do have one favor to ask--if you learn of anything regarding the Lifestream or run into anyone we should be aware of, please let us know."
carrotcop: (Not amused)

One of Judy's ears twitched and turned towards Tseng before the rest of her followed, the rabbit straightening up a bit as the polite smile she'd been wearing turned into a bit of a frown.

"I had heard that the Turks were this world's police force. Seems a little unreasonable that there wouldn't be openings considering all of the new arrivals," she said in a sort of thoughtful tone, hands resting on her hips. Her gaze swept over the...individual before her--human? That's what they were called right?--her nose giving a twitch at the serious air around him.

"I was apart of the police force back home and I'd like to continue doing my part here, sir."

It was sorely needed, really, even if today wasn't bad. If he hadn't actually met Zack - and his own, at that - beforehand, Cloud would absolutely have been far more upset during this meeting.

"Not," Cloud said, rolling his eyes, "you're two---"

Then he stopped, frowning, and thought it over. He'd been wondering, but with the time that just kept being added, first four, then more, Cloud had gotten more reluctant to figure out how much time he'd actually lost.

"... at least five to... what... eight years, older than me. You both are." Cloud stopped and looked away. He'd known this, vaguely, already. Looking at both this Zack and the one that came from the same Planet as him, it wasn't hard to figure out.

But he did the math, now, and suddenly the years were just... Zack had said he'd missed him, but that was such a nebulous and yet weighty statement. That was a lot of time.

"... so I think I'm not... really responsible for what you do," Cloud finished gamely, even if it was suddenly very quiet and the smile he tried for pretty much failed.

"Police force?" He asked, more surprised to hear it put that way than anything. Even more surprised than talking with a rabbit. "You've misheard. The Turks are an elite private security force." To put it nicely.

"Where exactly is 'back home'?" He asked politely, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"All right, five or six sound all right?" said Winston.

"What would you have him doing?" Tseng asked, trying to play the question off as casual, though he was very invested in Rufus' answer. Zack wasn't exactly Turk material, at least not as they used to be. Now, though, perhaps.
carrotcop: (In pursuit!)

"Oh, so there is a police force then?" There's a bit of a dry tone to her voice as she asks, hip cocking slightly as her ears fall back. She's done her digging and hadn't really come up with much.

Enlighten her, Tseng.

"Zootopia," she says smoothly. "It's a giant metropolis home to thousands of animals of all types." Though none quite as bald as the animals here. "I was an officer in the first precinct."

"The World Regenesis Organization is taking over in that department, as I understand," he stated calmly. Why this little creature had decided he should be the target of her ire, he didn't understand. He was giving her information. What more did she want?

"Zootopia... I see." He nodded, folding his arms over his chest. "That must have been a prestigious assignment, and I'm certain you did your job diligently. Unfortunately, as I said, here in Edge the Turks are not a police force, and we are not hiring. If you would like to join ShinRa Tech's security force, however, these fine people will assist you with your application."

"Security, of course." Rufus sighed softly, shifting Keiko in his lap so he could be more comfortable. "For the first time in my life, Tseng, I don't what tomorrow might bring. Until three years ago, I was going to rule the world. And then I was going to rebuild it...and then I was going to die." Tseng was the only one Rufus would ever openly admit that to, the only one who was outright told by Rufus himself that he knew he was going to die and had accepted it. "Today? I've spoken to two Zack Fairs, one of whom isn't even from this Planet and seems to have adopted a former experiment. I saw a giant monkey walking around the fair today. People unlike any we've ever seen--or ever made--are washing up in Mideel every day."

He paused to let everything settle and to let him phrase this next part properly. "I have every faith that you and the others can protect me at whatever cost. But what if it comes down to exactly that? Where will I be then?" The president shook his head. "I cannot allow that to happen, Tseng. I will not."

Judy let's out a slightly annoyed huff and she straightens again, paws fisting at her sides.

"With all due respect, sir, my experience and expertise are far beyond that of a security guard. I've dealt with things that most animals would cringe at. Drug rings, potential mafia threats, kidnappings--and that was my first assignment with the ZPD." She wasn't about to let some bald animal tell her that a security force was probably the best fit for her.

No. She was done taking crap from larger animals. She'd been done for awhile.

"If the Turks don't need me I'll find another city and another police force or private unit that can use someone to actually get jobs done. Not stand around and watch monitors all night long!"

[Marlene had slipped away from everyone she knew to wander around. She'd like to point out that she acted more like an adult than most of the adults in her life - who leaves a four year old in charge of a bar by herself anyway? - and therefore, she didn't need a chaperone.

She's weaving her way in and out of the booths when she spots something completely and utterly new to her. Curious, she heads closer, standing on her tiptoes to look over the counter at Judy, wide-eyed and amazed.]

For someone with such big ears, this rabbit certainly seemed to have issues listening. Tseng, for however curious he was, didn't have the continued interest to correct Judy on the fact that he'd never said it was a better fit, only that it was an option.

"I wish you good luck, then," he nodded politely. What a strange interaction. Part of him wanted to go back to the gazebo to tell Rufus what he'd seen. The other part wondered if Rufus would believe him.

[One of the rabbit's ears twitches and she pauses, dart held carefully in one paw as she glances over at the small creature peering over the counter.

She still wasn't quite sure what "humans" were, outside of fur-less animals, but she recognized a young animal when she saw one.

Which is why a warm smile greets Marlene as Judy lowers the dart.]

Hello there!

Ugh. This guy was just as bad as the other members of the police force when she'd first joined.

Her foot taps irritably against the table before she's turning and hopping down off the edge. Several people step out of her way as she stalks away from the table, ears still flat against her head as her paws stay in tight fists at her sides.

She'd show him.

"The monkey may have been preferable to the rabbit," Tseng muttered with a sigh. What a strange lot indeed. He preferred not to think about Rufus' brush with mortality. No, they hadn't found a cure, but regardless Rufus was now cured and healthy and safe. The Wutaian would do whatever it took to keep him that way, whatever the cost, as Rufus had said.

"I don't question your choices, sir. Fair was- ... is a capable soldier, one of the best, and I know he'll serve you well should he decide to join us." And it would be nice to have his old friend close at hand, though that wasn't something Tseng was about to voice.

Ah. There it as again. Cloud thinking too much. Zack placed a hand on the kid's head, giving those blonde spikes a ruffle. Again, it didn't matter about this Zack or that Zack - this Cloud or that Cloud. All he saw was someone dealing with things that they shouldn't have to. All that Zack cared about was helping out in what way he could, if he could.

"I wouldn't put too much weight on that," he shrugged. "What's really weird to think about is the fact that the Cloud I know is older than me now. How messed up is that?"

He didn't know if this Cloud knew that he didn't survive, but it didn't matter. Numbers were numbers. Time was lost and they wouldn't get it back.

"All this means is that we both have a lot of lost time to make up for. No big."
