Hot Damn

The WRO is well aware that people are not happy with the current state of things, but unfortunately it's going to take them longer to get the power lines back up than they expected.

One of the members comes up with a WRO-funded vacation to Costa del Sol. Not only do they still have power, but they have a beach. Everybody loves the beach, and the ones who don't sure love AC. It'll be a gesture of goodwill and an apology for taking so long to make city life bearable again.

So everyone, hop on the free Air Taxi and come to Costa del Sol! Hotel rooms are free for periods of three days at a time, swimsuits are on sale, and they have AC. Really, do you need any other reason?

Wait, you... stole it? [Looking from the gil she'd dropped into his hand to Yuffie, Cloud shook his head, a bit too overwhelmed at the moment to be really angry. Annoyed, yes, but not angry.

The comment about zippers has him roll his eyes though and give Yuffie a flat stare.]

And that would've stopped you?

[So dry, because he really doesn't think so.]

[Yuffie laughs a bright and happy laugh. See, stealing stuff does make friends. You just have to return what you steal. It's now worked both times she's met Cloud.]

No but it would have made it harder.

[Sometimes a challenge is nice.]

Come on. I'll race you to the water!

[He's not sure he believes her, about getting the gil back if he hadn't noticed, but he had and he had, so... it doesn't really matter, does it?]

... uh. [Well. He's not doing anything else at the moment, though if it's such a good idea to play along or not, he doesn't know. Zack would probably wave him off, and she did know his older self...

With a shrug, Cloud dips his head in a small nod.]

Okay. [And then immediately takes off running. You asked for it, Yuffie.]

[Yuffie is acquainted with Zack though that relationship involved stalking and a lot of emails. It isn’t something that Yuffie thinks about often. She’d been a young teen then and is now an older teen; totally over it; at least over the stalking part.

Some things, like thief, are habits that are harder to die.

His nod is all she needs for her smile to widen. An unashamed giggles escape from her lips as he takes off.]

HEY!

[Yuffie turns easily on her heel and takes off at a run after him. Despite the shifting sand beneath them Yuffie moves quickly, her aim is to tackle Cloud into the water but she’ll take whatever she can get.]

[Cloud only gives a loose wave behind him at the yell - it's hard enough running on sand, but he's also trying to avoid children running around and the scattered clumps of people and not kick sand all over anyone he passes.

While still trying to be as fast as possible, but his concentration on being somewhat careful will probably get Yuffie exactly what she wants. Mostly because Cloud doesn't expect to be tackled, even if it's not surprising that she finally caught up.

Eyes widening at the feeling of a body driving into his just as he was trying to slow down Cloud pitches forward. Falling here where it's shallow isn't going to be pleasant, but he's got good training and reflexively pulls himself into a roll.

Not that... rolling through the surf is easy or anything, and he comes up sputtering, spikes drooping but not flat.]

What that... necessary? [Have a very wet and thoroughly ruffled glare, Yuffie.]

[Yuffie’s tackle takes her over Cloud and into the water as well. She receives a mouth full of salty sea water which she promptly spits out. Her lips spread into a wide grin as laughter bursts from her lips. Her thin fingers come to rest on her stomach as she tries her best to contain herself.]

You should see yourself. You look like a disgruntled Chocobo!

[She rolls over as the waves reach out and pull at her side. Yuffie really can’t stop laughing and even with Cloud glaring at her she decides it’s worth it.]

You really need to lighten up Cloud.

[Which can be said for any Cloud.]

[He huffs, blowing harshly at a wet clump of hair which had been his bangs just moment before and gives her another annoyed glare. He hasn't heard that one before, no.]

Maybe you should be more careful.

[He doesn't sound particularly annoyed as he says it, and his expression has smoothed out - a second later he splashes Yuffie, immediately staggering up to his feet and backing off, a small smile on his face even as he keeps a wary distance from Yuffie.]

[Yuffie's palms raise to protect herself though it does very little when water cascades up and over her petite frame. A smile stretches over her lips as she steps closer to Cloud.]

Oh no you didn't!

[The water density slows her as she dives towards Cloud. Her palm smacking the water towards him as she aims to sweep out his legs.]

[He tries to keep some distance between them, which is at least a little easier since there's no one right around where they are, though there's a couple children up on the beach, so he should probably back past them...]

Looks like I did.

[The smile is still there, though he has to hurry backwards to avoid her - and it's that, more than Yuffie managing to unbalance him, that makes him actually lose his balance and topple backwards with a quiet noise of surprise.]

[A burst of what can only be described as evil laughter escapes Yuffie’s lips. When he topples back she jumps forward with him. Even though he’s younger than the Cloud she knows he’ll most likely over power her in a fight but that won’t stop her from trying to tackle him into the waves.

She manages to push him down once before floating along with the waves, moving a little closer to the shore before she tumbled and landed on the sand.

Waves are not forgiving by nature.]

[At least they'd moved far out enough falling over this time means hitting only water first, then the sandy bottom as he rights himself. Then he is immediately hit by a wave that washes over him just in time to drench him completely.

Muttering, Cloud shakes his head and pushes wet spikes out of his eyes, grinning a little as he looks up in time to watch Yuffie stumble and fall on the beach. Wading back to the beach himself, he sits down in the surfs, pulling at his wet hoodie with a grimace.

But it's not so bad; the hoodie will dry up and he had pulled the zippers of the pockets close after he got the gil Yuffie had stolen back, so he hasn't lost anything. Peering at her sideways from under wet bangs, Cloud's silent for a bit longer.]

... how did you meet him?

[He means his older self, of course.]

[Yuffie rises an eyebrow as she settles on the sandy beach. She's pretty sure she has sand everywhere now but that's just one of the charms and discomforts of the beach.]

Cloud you mean?

[Water rolls up around her as she leans back on her palms. Her chin turns up looking at the bright sky and lazy clouds that drift overhead.]

It was a long time ago now. Years I guess? I was trying to restore Wutai. [Using the stupidest possible means ever.] I thought having a lot of materia would help. [Now she just has materia because it's pretty.] I met up with them in the woods. They begged me to join them because I'm so awesome and then when we got close to Wutai I stole all their materia and ran.

[Which worked for about 10 seconds.]

Of course Cloud caught me... well, saved me. [She hopes he doesn't repeat that part.] He was SO pissed but he let me come along and help anyway. I felt kind of bad about it after the fact.

[Technically Cloud had been her first friend outside of Wutai. Yuffie's never been very good at the 'friend' thing.]

[He nods, but doesn't say anything else as she clearly got what he meant, listening quietly when she starts to talk. Or well, maybe quietly for the most part, but he muffled a snort when she said they'd 'begged her' - he was pretty sure that wasn't... exactly... it.]

Usually stealing from people doesn't make them very happy, no. [Shaking his head, Cloud smiles a little, then looks up, frowning.]

And then you decided to steal from him again, anyway..? [Then Cloud looks away.] Though you... got the wrong one.

Did I?

[Yuffie squints while her lips continued to curl into a smile.] Sure, you don't remember me but you're still Cloud right? A Cloud out of many! How many Cloud's do you think are in the sky? They're different but Cloud's right?

[She isn't making that much sense but then that isn't really odd.]

Lighten' up.

[Something she says to all Cloud's apparently.]

... never heard that before. [Cloud rolls his eyes, more exasperated than annoyed. Though, the context is all different and he frowns more thoughtfully.]

I was... sort of wondering, though. [that turns into a quiet mutter as he digs his bare toes into the wet sand, the waves eating away at it.] If I'm here, and this Planet is...

[He shakes his head. Were there more? That was a bit too much to try and think about. Instead, after a little pause, hesitating, he glances to Yuffie and cocks his head.]

It's hard to get much lighter than a cloud, you know.

[Said completely straight-faced, though he ruins the serious facade by ducking his head at the end - joking with Zack is easier.]

[Yuffie looks over at him, her palm clapping him in the back while laughter echoed from her lips.]

That's what you took from that? [He wins that round though Yuffie will never admit defeat.

She pushes her fingers into the sand, lifting the wet material and watching as it falls in small clumps into the water.] So what do you do here Cloud? Just follow Zack around like a lost puppy?

[Yeah, she knows Zack. From a long time ago.]

[He smiles faintly at Yuffie's laughter, and despite feeling a little awkward not minding it.]

I... [Looking up to frown at her, there's no way to hide the blush on his cheeks before he snorts, looking away.] Which Zack?

[That's just a stalling tactic, even if he hasn't really been following either of them around more than he would otherwise or would get the chance to. Techncially, being here and with Zack from their version of the Planet being here too has meant a chance to spend far more time with him than he has otherwise...]

... haven't settled on anything yet. [He shrugs, staring out at the waves, gaze a little distant.]

Any of them?

[Yuffie doesn't actually know how many Zack's there are though she plans to go stalking them after this. Some habits don't die.]

Come on, I bet you ~LOVE~ him.

[She's definitely making fun of you Cloud.]

There's only two---

[Yuffie.

Yuffie no.

Cloud will be eternally relieved he just freezes at that. Let's just say he has been doing his exceedingly very best to pretend any crushes don't exist. He does not need this.

So, you know what? Have a dirty, probably kind of pouty glare before Cloud just turns away and stares at the horizon instead, working hard on suppressing any little blush that might have escaped.]

[Yuffie watches him with a smile.]

I was kidding, didn't know you swung that way.

[She gives him a wink.]

That's just the way of it isn't it? All the cute boys are taken or interested in each other. [She sighs.] It isn't fair.

[Throwing her a quick glance, Cloud rolls his eyes, still feeling a bit embarrassed.]

... doesn't really matter anyway.

[If he wasn't Cloud, he might have said something about how did she know he wasn't interested in other people? But as it was, Cloud just shrugs and digs his toes into the wet sand.]

Pretty sure I heard guys in the barracks say the same thing about the girls of Midgar.

What? Well, I'm not from Midgar so that might be true.

[Yuffie laughs and then leans back in the sand. Her palms sink a little as the water rolls up the coast. It's nice and despite the fact that all she's doing is teasing him, she's having fun. She can at least be herself without him getting pissed, silent and then brooding.

That's new for her.]

[There's a small smile on Cloud's face as he snorts softly.]

It's probably the same everywhere...

[Well, he assumes anyway; he doesn't really know, having only his experience with the barracks of ShinRa's army to compare with, considering his only other experience was the handful of children he grew up with... around, more like, in Nibelheim.]

That’s so boring. If everything is the same everywhere then why do we go anywhere?

[Yuffie grins at Cloud.]

I think we should find out. You’re staying in Edge right? [She feels like everyone is staying there.]

We’ll start there and move out.

[He nods, then blinks, turning his head to stare, utterly confused, at Yuffie.]

... ask everybody if they feel like people they're interested in are either taken or interested in their own sex?

[Yuffie, he is not doing that.]
