Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[[Feel free to make your own top levels! Welcome to Edge of Life!]]

...It's awful here.

[He moves closer to Laslow and moves to touch him a bit.]

...I'm sorry for being mean to you.

[Laslow smiles a little and lets Keaton lean against him. It's just something he does.]

I understand completely, Keaton. A new place, a new world...it's terrifying.

No one here even knows what a Wolfskin is... they thought I was a freak.

[And that's not even starting on what happened after he tried to be himself with everyone here.]

Then they're ignorant and can safely be ignored. It's one thing to not know what you are, but to label you a freak? Never.

It was disappointing that Aerith didn't know more but it didn't matter. She could help them figure it out, after she takes the time to settle in. Three years was a.. ... to Vincent, meager, but to others a significant amount of time to be disconnected from the world.

"I'm sure there is an inappropriate response somewhere in regards to the term bouncing and you being a woman."

He glances at her. "Perhaps return to your church. You should see your flowers. They've blossomed well."

Vincent had only a vague familiarity with technology. His mind was still as sharp as it had been when he died t 27 but it didn't mean he wouldn't enact a willful level of ignorance in regards to phones. Much of Technology seemed to be a waste of effort or used for military purposes.

Phones were a good example. The talking part was convenient. The rest, the tap screens..? Pointless.

"You would want to speak with any member of their human resources or Tseng. Tseng is the one with the long dark hair and slanted features."

Terra put her arm up, patting her bicep. "You underestimate me!"

She had defeated many monsters on her own in her own world. They were sure to be able to handle anything here. But she understands, it would be best to get some ideas and plans on how to approach the option.

"I think we probably live in the same complex, since all the Streamers were put there. We'll definitely be seeing each other again." She bumps shoulders gently.

Cloud shook his head a little, but didn't say anything. Maybe she was right and he was, but he'd also seen what sort of strength and abilities - especially if you weren't carrying materia - was needed to take care of some of the monsters around.

"Probably," he agreed with a nod; the complex wasn't even partway to full yet, so even if more kept coming it'd probably be a while before the Streamers would start to be put elsewhere, "... hopefully not like this though."

Cloud rolls his eyes, glancing around for the Cait Sith toy, but for now it's nowhere in sight, so he turns to Terra with a small smile.

"Maybe we can get out of here and not get apprehended again." He really wasn't planning on letting that insistent mascot get him at a table again, even if it worked out this time in terms of a conversation that hadn't been bad at all...

[personal profile] anesperience 2016-07-01 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Terra looks around as well, frowning. "Yes.. Its.. .very pushy around this table but apparently the other stands aren't as aggressive."

She takes takes Cloud's hand as she stands, glad that this table had at least provided her with a friend. It was good for something after all. If they could escape that is.

"Quick!!" She was laughing. She wanted to try some of those carnival games.

There was a happy declaration behind them, the moogle mascot deciding this was proof their speed dating was working.

"Well no," Zack mused. "But he's not the only one I'd be wary of."

"Does what really count?" Zack asked.

Oh the kid was not cracking a joke at him. He was partially proud of him and partially bewildered. Where did that come from?

Grinning was good. That was something that was sorely missed so Zack would take th punch. He rubbed at his shoulder, snickering.

"What? Did you want more hugs and heart felt tears?" he grinned. "I mean I could go to that instead if you really wanted."

"I won't eat it!"

He was just going to have a bite. It wasn't like there weren't more to be had. Zack would play the little game of keep away anyway. Aerith wouldn't be able to keep it from him indefinitely, but that wasn't the point, was it? They were just being goofballs and honestly? Why not enjoy it?

Finally, he snatched her wrist and brought it down. Zack took a bite out of the corndog, looking way too smug for his own good.

"So sorry to weird you out," he said, not really apologetic at all. Zack did understand that it was a little startling, but c'mon. Like he wasn't above a little bit of teasing.

Reno was right though. Hearing that there was a dead guy running around was startling enough. Knowing that there were two? That was just downright unnerving, huh?

"I've heard that there is another me running around," he confirmed. "I've already met both Clouds in any case."

He knew that the man before him had lived. Zack didn't know quite what to expect when the older version of himself turned around. Obviously the walking stick was something he knew was coming. However, there was something else that was different. Zack wasn't quite able to put his finger on it, but something about this older man was a little more worn down than he was.

Briefly, Zack wondered about just how different things were for this guy. What was life like? Had any of the things that had happened here continued to happen for the older Zack? How much of what he was seeing was due to recovery from injuries or guilt? Well, he assumed it was guilt. He wasn't sure how he would have felt if Cloud wouldn't have made it and he had. It was bad enough with Angeal...

Mentally he shook himself free of those thoughts, hands on his hips. "Wellll. I couldn't really say! This is one of those weird things like 'do we like the same kinds of foods' or 'if I was me, which I am, what would I look for?' right?"

You're an interesting woman, Liadrin, but Zack has no intention to date you or anyone else here. Rest easy.

He listened to her description, none of it really clicking with him at all, but she seemed to enjoy talking about it, so he let her continue. The places she mentioned held no significance to him, aside from having strange names that made his imagination go wild with what those locations might look like. It was a fun game.

"This? Hm. Well, we're in Edge right now, so named because it's a new settlement built on the edge of Midgar, which is that rusting heap of junk." He motioned grandly to the dilapidated city on a plate in the distance. "Midgar used to be the pinnacle of civilization, but a madman named Sephiroth summoned a meteor down onto it. It was only thanks to a counter-spell that the entire planet wasn't destroyed."

That was a good starting point, right? Given the weird things she was talking about that he didn't understand, he thought it was safe to just tell her point blank what was what without sugar coating.

"And the flowers... Are you still selling them? Because I was talking with my roommate about buying some flowers earlier," he stated casually, trying to keep this as normal as possible. He didn't need to be blurting out that he was glad she was alive, or whatever else. It might freak her out.
backwaterpuppy: (look left)

[personal profile] backwaterpuppy 2016-07-02 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... No. Not yet," he admitted sheepishly. "It's not like I came here expecting to get a pet. But I'll find what I need." Maybe a literal glass bowl if he had to, but it seemed you could find anything in Edge these days so he wasn't too worried about it.

"Motion sickness still?" Not that he'd expected anything to change. He accepted the bagged fish with a grin, giving the woman a mock salute before removing his arm from Cloud's shoulder and picking up his staff to leave the booth.

"Oh, did you?" He glanced sideways at the blond, looking for any sort of negative reaction from the teen. "And how did that go?"
backwaterpuppy: (on a truck)

[personal profile] backwaterpuppy 2016-07-02 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," He nodded, a grin forming over his lips. "So you obviously knew to look for me around the food. If you were looking for fair food, what would you look for?"

And then the weird thought ocurred to him that maybe there was some strange happenstance that made those cookies unavailable in this world, like they'd never been invented. Maybe, somehow, that was the huge butterfly effect difference between this world and his. Cookie stacks. That would be wild.

"Thanks. I'll see you then!" Isa waved and headed back in the direction he was going before their run-in.

Free drinks were always a good thing. He didn't want to take too much advantage even if he was going to do more than enough work later. Jobs which he and Lea had gotten really lucky finding.

"If it was a professional sport, he'd be the best pro around. He's that good at it." Isa smiled. He couldn't have a better friend than Lea and he's very proud of his best friend's talents.

"Yeah. I saw a few bad ones too. Like the one Tifa was carrying around. I didn't want to say it was ugly... but it was." He laughed and glanced over at Cloud.

"I'm fine, thank you." At least the kid was polite. "You should be more careful. You don't want to injure anyone, I hope."

There's a small warning in his tone and the slight quirk of an eyebrow: knock it off, or there will be consequences.

"It could be worse." As far as unpleasant things he's had to deal with, this hardly registers as 'sucking'.

"Of course." Rude snorted lightly and smiled. He reached in his pocket, pulled out a roll of antacid tablets and handed it to him. "So you can't blame me later." All this festival food was bound to give them indigestion at some point, and now he can't pin it on him. Rude had done his part to ensure he didn't get ill. The rest was on Reno.

It was definitely nice to have some down time to celebrate.

"Age and experience," Cloud said blandly, peering up at Zack out of the corner of his eye. Not that Zack hadn't changed or gotten more experience just in the year he'd known him, but that... wasn't the point.

"Never mind," he added softly, shaking his head, then looked back up at Zack, "have you... met the other, er, you, yet?"

Did he even know there was the Zack from the same Planet Cloud came from around, yet?
