Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

[Judy might notice an odd sight today. Odder than Winston too.

At the given moment, there was a lot of kids trying to wrestle with a floating puff-ball which was strikingly familiar to the mogs, but he wore a tiny little bandanna of green and a small sheathed knife at his side.

He was flailing as two children wrestled with him, trying to claim him for his own, and his protests were loud and flaily.]

Help kupo! I am not a toy to be hugged! Please stop, police, anyone? Pomguard? Hello? They're squeezing my pom off!

[Cloud nods a bit, trying not to make this awkward but he knows it's totally awkward. How could it not be?]

I'm sorry. [There's the slightest hint of a teasing tone as he glances at the other, giving him a faint smile.] Zack's a handful.

[There's a fondness to the way he says it though and underneath it all maybe a bit of jealousy. What he would have given to have been able to have Zack around through everything.

This kid was lucky.

Cloud's expression changes when the young man fires off a question of his own and the blonde glances away.]

With Sephiroth?

He's not going to punch him in the face.

But he's definitely going to punch the other in the shoulder, probably a little harder than necessary. You deserve it though, Zack. And hey! He's grinning a bit at least.

"We only just see each other again and you're already starting?"

It sure seems like it. [It's said thoughtfully as Judy steps to the side a bit to get a better look at him, her expression less shocked now, though.

Now she's just genuinely interested in this strange mammal.]

What are gorillas? Outside of mammals, I mean.

[Judy frowns a bit but...she knows he's right. It's the same situation she'd been in back home, in a way. No one had expected her to be able to do the job she'd been given and she had to work her tail off to prove it.

Back to square one, it seems.

She takes the card with a slight nod, looking it over.]

..Thank you. [Looking up at Rude, her ears lift and she gives him a determined look.] I will.

Judy had a feeling that there was another reason for his staring, since so many humans had been doing it as of late, but she wasn't going to call him out on it. He was being polite, at least.

Instead she just smiles, holding the gun up.

"I was a police officer back home. I had to get really good with a dart gun," she mused, waving the gun a bit. "This is a pretty similar concept!"

[Judy's ears immediately perked when she heard the cry for police specifically, turning towards the source as she lowered the dart gun. The sight that greeted her had the bunny immediately frowning and she handed the gun off to the game owner before she was hopping down off the stand and darting over.]

Stop right there! [She yelled without hesitation, immediately diving into the fray to try and--gently--push some of the small humans away as best she could.] You're assaulting this gentleman and you need to stop right now!

"An, your friend. Well, it will do you no harm, after all. And it might even do you some good. So there is benefit in it. You'll do well. You seem the type, so long as you put your mind to it."

Not that Liadrin was familiar with science, but she was aware that despite being a large gorilla, Winston certainly seemed sharp. Intelligent. It was something to admire.

It just outlined the differences between Azeroth and this world, clearly. Oh, there were those who shook hands, but Liadrin had always felt that somewhat informal. So bowing it was.

"Well. To be honest, certain dragons at home are...shall we say, choosy about who rides them, as well. They are not easily trained." The elf sighed. "Clearly, I will prefer a chocobo, should I ever need to travel more in the future."

And if she wasn't told to take a mechanical vehicle. Truth be told, they made her a little queasy. The motion wasn't natural...

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Cloud. I do apologize for waylaying you." Even if she had done so for helpful reasons. "I hope I haven't delayed you."

[werehusband]

I didn't want you to prove anything... you're not being a very good friend, Laslow.

[He shakes his head.]

I'll just go by myself...

[And he turns to head towards them.]

One might be surprised, what would or would not horrify the Blood Knight. Still, that wasn't a topic for debate at the moment. Liadrin gave a nod, expression thoughtful.

"I have an acquaintance who seems familiar with technology, but you are correct in that it might be better to experience such hands-on." Her brows furrowed slightly.

Largest local company. That did not exactly impress her, but...ignorance was a part of that. Companies were not a big thing on Azeroth. Unless, of course, you were a goblin and got caught up in their cartels and conglomerates. Which, she was not.

"I do not suppose you would know to whom I should speak, eh?"

No, Keaton, I'll go with you. Otherwise I'll get lost later and then where will we be?

[werehusband]

No. I don't want to be near anyone. Leave me alone.

[He huffs and starts to move faster.]

[flirtatioustea]

Keaton...

[Laslow frowns, voice quiet.]

...will you please come help me get home at sundown? I'm serious about getting lost.

[werehusband]

...Fine.

[Which is all he said before proceeding to get terribly terribly lost.]

Seventh Heaven. I shall remember that. It sounds a more pleasant place than seven hells, of a certainty. That is a curse, where I am from, so... [The elf lifts her hands a bit, gently. This only allows her to take the ice with ease, and a smile of gratitude, before her expression shifts with Tifa's question, going a shade sour.]

I am...bored, I suppose. As I have said, I am more used to doing, and...I have little to do, here. Though I have endeavored to help a...gorilla start working out.

[The phrase is just so out there that Liadrin can't help but start to chuckle at the ridiculousness of it all.]

Perhaps you have seen him. Light knows he is certainly as unmistakable in his way as I am!

[She takes a sip from the ice, to moisten her mouth.] What do I owe you for this, by the way?

What are gorillas... we are herbivores for example, we like bananas and other fruits and vegetables. I also enjoy a lot of peanut butter as well.

Gorillas, on a whole are very intelligent, even ones unlike me who haven't undergone gene therapy and developmental skill enhancements. We learn, understand and have our own languages.

[He was also a bit pudgy too, from the look of it. Like he hadn't exercised for a while.]

[The small humans seemed to understand Judy, although one of them made a scooping motion towards Judy. Despite this, Mogleo wrestled free as he exclaimed,] Kupo! We're not toys or pets kupo!

[The two kids dissuaded, for the moment, he breathed a sigh of relief.] Thank you, kupo. They almost squeezed my pom right off!

"I was always told I was inquisitive," laughed Winston. "Something else to keep in mind."

[backwatertrooper]

He shook his head silently at the question, then after a moment, amended; "I... was just walking around." He cast a glance up at the nearest of the fair rides and let out a huff, then turned back to Liadrin.

"Chocobos are still really good," he said, chewing his lip in thought, "and at least the ferry between Junon and Costa del Sol could accommodate one." So if she wanted to travel and do it cross-continent, it wouldn't really be that much of an issue.

Though, of course, some chocobos were perfectly suited to take their rider across the ocean by themselves, but those weren't exactly cheap.

[Some hours later, when the fair is dying down for the day, Laslow begins to try and wander his way back home. He has a few landmarks that will help him, but he's still honestly worried about getting lost in such a close, gray city. Not even Nohr was this bad.

He had also been hoping that Keaton would come back to the fair. He hadn't meant to upset him that much--it was just so tricky with him sometimes since he didn't get humans when they were at their weirdest.

Laslow turns a corner--he knows it's wrong but it might get him close--and sees a familiar shape on a bench.]

...Keaton?

[werehusband]

Oh...

[He looks up at Laslow when he hears him and sighs.]

I got lost... so I just stayed here and hoped you'd find me...

[He looks even more dejected. IF that was possible.]

[flirtatioustea]

I see.

[Laslow moves to sit down but hesitates]

May I join you?

[werehusband]

...Yeah.

[He moves over a bit, curling his hands together.]

[flirtatioustea]

[Laslow sits down and looks up.

You can't see the stars. He thinks Odin's fellow retainer would hate it here, if what he's heard is true]

...I miss my home too, you know.
