Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

"It's delicious," said Winston honestly.

He nodded. "Athena kept telling me y'know. I need to work out."

Keaton swallowed the entire hot dog down in one bite before he turned to the guy who had called out at him. "Hm?" His tail wagged a bit. He moved over to him, grinning big and wide. "Hey!"

[Keaton had spent all day, trying to keep his high spirits up. But so many people had gotten mad at him for one reason or another. For making a mess, for biting someone when they were flirting with him... that one wasn't his fault. The guy was being an ass about it all.

There was city everywhere, with no where to go hunt for anything. He felt claustrophobic in this place. This wasn't like the castle with places to go hunt. This wasn't fun at all.

He grabbed onto Laslow's shirt, holding onto it while pouting.]

I wanna go back home. I hate it here.

[Laslow stops mid-step when he's grabbed, reaching for the sword that isn't there before he realizes who it is and relaxes with a soft sigh]

So do I, Keaton. I don't think we can, however.

There's no place to hunt or do anythin' like the wolfskin do! ...My beaststone is missing too...

[He looks at Laslow, sadder than he's ever looked.]

And no one here is lookin' for a friend like me...

[He's never seen Keaton this miserable. It hurts to see it.]

Well, I am here so you already have one friend, yes?

You said you were gonna look for a job... what am I supposed to do while you're gone?

[Probably should work but he's already discouraged.]

Well...you can explore the city and get information, or perhaps find a job yourself.

[werehusband]

...No one's gonna want me to work for them. And how am I supposed to get information if people don't want to talk to me?

Eavesdrop? And they might, once you adjust.

[werehusband]

A... Adjust?! Adjust what?!

To this new world, what else?

[Did he offend him...?]

...What's wrong with me that I have to adjust?

[Yup.]

Nothing, Keaton.

[Damn moody dogs]

But we all need time to adjust to new places like this, to get used to what the locals do and so on.

But adjusting means I can't be a wolfskin! I can't hunt or change! What am I supposed to do?!

Keaton, does being a wolfskin rest solely on your ability to change and hunt?

[werehusband]

It's the most important part! Wolfskins are able to transform! If I can't transform, then I just have the ears and a tail!

[flirtatioustea]

So your loyalty, kindness, and ferocity mean nothing?

[werehusband]

...That's just... me. That's not part of being a wolfskin...

He doesn't hear what Isa says, because he's too busy finishing off some more meat, but when he comes back, he goes right up to Isa and his tail starts wagging wildly towards him.

"Hey!" He grinned, showing off his teeth. "Whatcha doin'?"

What. On Gaia. Was he looking at?

Clearly, this guy was a Streamer. There was no other explanation, besides Hojo having another secret son running around, and besides the one incident with Red XIII and Aerith, Reno didn't know about any dog-boys. Somewhere, some other universe had beast people. Or the Lifestream just coughed up random body parts together. That was a gross thought.

"What's yer problem, man?" Reno asked when he'd finally found his voice again. "Throwin' food on the ground like that? What the hell?"

If the dog wanted to be wasteful, fine, whatever -- that was none of Reno's business. But don't make more of a mess to clean-up.

Zack said things like that so often... it made Cloud smile, just a little, before stared for a moment, opening his mouth and then closing it again.

"... I'm... not really good with people," he said after a moment, and only half meant having to interact at all, hesitating but then adding; "but if you wanted support I could go with you." He didn't know her, this conversation notwithstanding, and he was pretty sure this wasn't what the speed dating idea was for or about, and he didn't know Edge any more than she did but...

This was still, in a way, his world, in a way it wasn't, for Terra.

She wasn't from here, obviously, and regardless of what technology she was used to, fair rides weren't for anyone, so Cloud just nodded, quietly amazed at the idea of anyone riding dragons or gryphons.

Here, they were hardly something that could be tamed or reasoned with. He glanced up at her chuckle, glanced down at the plush in his hand and stifled a little sigh, but she didn't seem to be making fun of him, so... he'd just accept it.

"Dragons and gryphons aren't things you can really ride, here... We use chocobos or cars," he paused to nod to a flatbed truck nearby, partly tucked behind a tent. There were trains and whatnot too, but better keep it simple, though she'd have seen that and other things on the trip to Edge, of course.

"I'm Cloud," he said quietly, hoping he didn't look as questioning as he felt when she bowed. That wasn't something people did here - well, he thought they might in Wutai, but he wasn't sure.

So other wolfskins are disloyal, cowards, and cruel?

[That makes him crack something of a hollow smile. Only Aerith could think that another version of her was a sister. He's really missed her way of thinking and teasing.]

Uh, mutual friend. {Okay, well her and Zack's relationship was a little more than that before, but they broke up and remained friends. That wasn't a bad thing in anyone's books. And he knows what became of this world's Zack. He's just unsure if that's a touchy topic or now.] And we traveled around too.

[He flushes. That sounds like it was just the two of them.] Uh, a group of us, I mean. AVALANCHE...
