Summer Solstice Fair

The sun is shining, the Mognet is working again, and the summer solstice fair is here! The WRO hopes to makes this an annual thing, but this is the first year they're doing it. Everything you could ever want from a fair is here and open to the public.

*Fair Rides: Ferris wheels, a mini rollercoaster, that thing that looks like an octopus and spins around--the WRO spared no expense to make sure everyone would have fun here today. There's even a gravity ride that takes you up to the top of a pole and then drops you!

*Food: So much food. So much unhealthy food. Funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, you name it. And it's all fairly cheap too, since the WRO promised to pay for half of what the merchants sell!

*Carnival Games: And most of them aren't even rigged! The Gold Saucer donated games for the fair and there are so many games. There's your standard shooting games, some basketball games, a dunk tank, hoop tosses, you name it. A few are rigged, though, so buy beware! There's also a few card tables set up in a tent for those who like their games a little less wild.

*Speed Dating: ...yeah, the WRO has no idea. This came with the Gold Saucer stuff, along with a Cait Sith and Moogle mascot pair that will coax anyone they can into sitting down and participating.

*Job Fair: With the influx of new arrivals, both native and Streamers, some employers see a golden opportunity to get some jobs filled! In one corner of the fair is another, mini-fair fill with tables and presentations on various workplaces: the WRO, ShinRa Tech, the volunteer emergency services of Edge, and the Highwind Air Taxi Service, just to name a few. Anyone of working age is welcome to wander in and have a look around.

Of course, the fair is taking up the entire center of Edge, so there's lots more to see and do!

"Hey, once you hit thirty, it's all downhill from there," he said. "Cause then the next big number is fifty and people expect you to be all responsible and stuff."

Truth of the matter was that it didn't really bother Zack. Sure, Cloud being older would take a little adjustment, but not too much. Seeing himself as a couple of years older still would be... Interesting, to say the least. Right now his primary focus was keeping the conversation from going to places that no one needed to think too long and hard on.

"But look at you. Not even old enough to hold your liquor. Tsk!"

"I think you're supposed to be responsible before that," Cloud said, shaking his head and trying not to smile. Somehow Zack usually just managed to pull them out of him, and obviously Zack was Zack so that went for this one too.

Even just seeing Zack was enough to make Cloud feel happy. That thought, even if Cloud wasn't going to think much on it because it was a little embarrassing, disappeared when Zack continued and his head shot up.

"Wh---" Cloud flushed, then huffed, annoyed and embarrassed in one. Because that comment made him think about his hurried attempt to down the drink his older self had given him, and while he'd been upset and that was probably why it'd gone down slightly wrong, Zack wasn't actually... necessarily wrong.

"... that's not true," he muttered, crossing his arms over his chest and looking away, watching a couple of children run by, laughing. "Doesn't it have more to do with how much you've drunk, not your age?"

... not that that was much of a defense, because Cloud really hadn't had a lot of alcohol yet.

"But with age comes experience!" Zack countered, wagging a finger.

"I guess," Cloud said with a little huff, because well. That was true, as trite as it was. Then he cocked his head, eyeing Zack and hesitating for a moment before a small smile escaped.

"... does that really count in your case, though?" It was said a little hesitantly, despite the fact that this felt easy, normal almost since he first met Zack (though he hadn't felt relaxed enough to tease back quite like this, then), this was still... different.

"Does what really count?" Zack asked.

Oh the kid was not cracking a joke at him. He was partially proud of him and partially bewildered. Where did that come from?

"Age and experience," Cloud said blandly, peering up at Zack out of the corner of his eye. Not that Zack hadn't changed or gotten more experience just in the year he'd known him, but that... wasn't the point.

"Never mind," he added softly, shaking his head, then looked back up at Zack, "have you... met the other, er, you, yet?"

Did he even know there was the Zack from the same Planet Cloud came from around, yet?

"Mmmno," Zack answered with a shrug. "Not yet. I figure I'll run into him sooner or later."

It was almost guaranteed. If they were anything alike then they had a similar, if not nearly identical, circle of friends. They probably even visited the same placed. Knowing that, then it would be inevitable.

"He has a cane, so I was told."

"It's more like a staff, but..." Nodding in confirmation, Cloud frowned at the thought. He knew why (more or less) Zack needed it, but that didn't make anything better. But nothing to do about it. Pushing that thought away, Cloud snorted.

"Maybe you'll do it accidentally," he said, shaking his head. He'd have liked to be more prepared and know what he was walking into when he'd come upon what he knew now was Seventh Heaven, but if he had he'd not have gone in at all, so maybe it was just as well he hadn't. "That's how I met... um, the Cloud who belongs here."

He still couldn't figure out a graceful way of talking about his older self with other people...

"Cane would be more dignified," he commented. "Less... Hermit-like."

Zack figured there was a reason for it, honestly. Being riddled with bullets it was probably a long, difficult recovery. Zack wasn't sure if it was a preferable existence over his own, but he wasn't going to spend all day contemplating that either. Death wasn't the worst thing that could happen to some one.

"You met Cloud? How did that go?"

Muffling a snort and feeling a little guilty for having sort-of laughed at that, Cloud shook his head.

"Could be used as a weapon, too." He thought that was why he'd chosen a staff instead of a cane, and that made sense, didn't it? Tilting his head back to stare up at the sky, Cloud bit his lip as he thought about it. How had it gone?

"... good? After..." he paused, shrugging, gaze dropping to the ground again before he looked at Zack, "after we got past talking about Nibelheim and... that." Cloud frowned, thoughts inevitably drawn to that topic again, but he shook his head, trying to chase it off.

"I might get a bike," he added, a small, mostly unconscious smile accompanying the comment.
